ABSTRACT

This chapter explains prepositions, reduplication, verbs with prepositional objects and adjectives followed by a preposition in Afrikaans language with some examples. Prepositions are the little words that show the relationship of nouns and pronouns to each other in a sentence. The problem with prepositions is that they are often used very idiomatically. Reduplication refers to the common and quite unique practice in Afrikaans of doubling certain words to express a new connotation. Verbs, nouns, numerals and adverbs can be reduplicated and reduplicated verbs can function as adverbs. Many verbs are commonly used in combination with a given preposition.
