ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about how to dine at a family home. If peoples get invited to someone's home for lunch or dinner, and most likely they will face a totally different experience compared to dining in a restaurant. There are two sets of etiquettes namely shared plate and individual plate. There are two sets of etiquettes depending on whether food will be shared from one big plate or if everyone has their own individual plate. Certain shared plate etiquettes involves making loud chewing sounds is frowned upon and dripping food should be avoided. Individual etiquettes involves if one's have their own plate; they have more freedom of eating the way they want. Most people understand that you come from a different culture and therefore, they are a lot more tolerant. But generally, food culture in Levantine Arabic (LA), and in most places in the Arab world, is rich with dos and don'ts.
