ABSTRACT

So far I have looked at the business and context of brands. Now it is time to turn to the actual production of a magazine, beginning with its written content. Subsequent chapters will consider the role of art and design in the production process. Here I shall focus on the typical structure of an editorial department, as well as some of the essential elements for creating good content based around preparation, commissioning and checking/subbing material. Some other features, particularly with regard to ethical and legal factors that have to be considered by editors, are considered in Chapter 7.
