ABSTRACT

Anna was a single mother in her early 50s whose children were in high school and college. She had homeschooled her children and was very invested in her roles as mother and teacher. Anna had a fascinating story. At the time of our interview with her, she felt as though she was just entering a new, exciting phase of life. She was getting ready to finish homeschooling the youngest of her children, which would afford her with new opportunities. So much of her life up until then had been dictated by what her kids needed. Now she wanted to care for herself in the same way that she had been doing for her family throughout the years. She was excited about the idea of taking classes at the local community college, starting a new hobby, or volunteering. In the meantime, she was working in a temporary position while she was trying to figure out what she wanted to do to get more financially stable. She loved cooking, singing, arts and crafts, and creative writing.
