ABSTRACT
Background of Investment Relations between Russia and the USA Russia’s economic relations with the USA are highly politicized. Although political and other non-economic factors are important for Russia’s trade and investment ties with other countries, too, the political dialogue with the USA is crucial. The politicization of the bilateral economic relations has been a typical problem throughout all periods of the USSR/Russia-USA relationship, including the more dangerous episodes of the Cold War or Putin’s presidency, Gorbachev’s Perestroika, or the liberal reforms of Yeltsin’s presidency. Still, the USA and Russia have developed ways to overcome excessive political influence for the sake of pure economic interests.
