ABSTRACT
Titles are often inadequate indicators of subject matter, and the present one is no exception. My discussion is limited to underdeveloped economies, in keeping with the nature of the symposium. This still leaves the problem quite open-ended, however, and would seem to require discussion of two questions: (1) Do minerals surveys contribute to mineral production? (2) Does mineral production contribute to economic development?
