ABSTRACT
As was described in the previous chapter, there were a number of spectacular escapes from Swedish prisons in 2004, which among other things resulted in the construction of a number of high-security units. The above cartoon was drawn at the time by the Swedish artist Magnus Bard. The inmate is peeking out through the tiny hole that remains following the bricking-in process and says “Now I’ll be good”. The following year, there were a number of cases of absconding among youths sentenced to youth custody, and the same pattern was repeated.
