ABSTRACT
The previous chapter examined China’s national interest and identity. This chapter will examine India’s national interest and identity. As in the last chapter, this chapter focuses on the three objective interests – economic development, security and status – but on the Indian side. India’s national identity will be examined in terms of India as a civilization state and nation state, as a developing country, as an emerging power and as a regional power.
