ABSTRACT

The press, despite their romantic misinterpretations of the young Indian's role, was favourably impressed by Krishna's quiet and pleasant manner, and amazed that the Messiah, as they called him, could wear plus-fours or play golf. Krishna and Mrs Besant, together with Mr. and Mrs Jinarajadasa, travelled to India by ship in October. Krishna had been travelling in Europe, continuing his message of self-reliance in search for truth, and questioning the need for external authorities. If Krishna was teaching the mystic path, and he was teaching the occult, Leadbeater did not resolve the problem of the World Teacher's position. Bishop Wedgwood was expected, as were Krishna and Jinarajadasa. Leadbeater and his party left for Sydney in January, accompanied by Jinarajadasa and Dick Balfour Clarke, together with Dr and Mrs Adrian Vreede. Whilst Leadbeater and colleagues were travelling extensively through Europe their American brethren could enjoy reading a detailed account of Leadbeater's cats in the Theosophic Messenger.
