Water connections: output-based aid for the urban poor and the pursuit of water justice in Jakarta, Indonesia

Even though water is necessary for survival, accessing it is often difficult for the urban poor in developing countries. In Jakarta, Indonesia, low-income households are much less likely to be connected to the water system, and poorer neighborhoods that are connected are more likely to experience unreliable or no water flow (Bakker and Kooy 2008; Bakker, Kooy, Shofiani and Martijn 2006).
