ABSTRACT

Information technology is concerned with the acquisition, processing, storage and communication of information. Information technology (IT) has been made possible by an application of science and engineering to the modelling, processing and retrieval of information. It has evolved as a separate technology by the convergence of data processing techniques and telecommunications. Advances in electronic engineering have provided resources for the storage and manipulation of information on a very large scale. Telecommunications has made possible the technology for the transmission of very large quantities of information in different formats. Affordable applications of advances in science and engineering to the production of information technology have been made possible by the availability of complex, reliable, low-cost microelectronic components.
