ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, Shackleton made two very important points. First, we cannot look at human resource systems such as selection or appraisal in isolation; we have to see them in their organisational context, and, in turn, the organisation within the environmental context. Second, we cannot take a solely managerialist point of view – we cannot look at selection or appraisal only from the perspective of the organisation’s interests. We have to consider the individual’s interests as well.
