ABSTRACT

This chapter provides step-by-step guides to prepare staff to deliver organizational simulations. The organization should select staff who are, and are perceived to be, credible, supportive, and neutral. The organization may be new to the use of simulations, and thus all staff members must be trained to ensure the simulations are developed properly, administered consistently, and scored accurately. The ultimate test of the effectiveness of assessment staff training is whether the training transfers to the implementation of the simulation. Proper training can ensure the simulation is standardized and fair, and produces reliable, valid, fair assessments of performance. The Guidelines and Ethical Considerations for Assessment Center Operations provide many useful recommendations for training assessors, role players, and other staff required for administering simulations. Role players can provide verbal cues in their interactions with candidates that elicit behaviors relevant to the competencies being assessed.
