ABSTRACT

Ancient rhymes contain much wisdom. The jingle goes: For the loss of a nail, the horseshoe was lost; for the loss of the horseshoe, the horse was lost; for the loss of the horse, the rider was lost; for the loss of the rider the message was lost; for the loss of the message, the war was lost; and for the loss in the war, the empire was lost. The critical loss referred here was that of the message — communications. India has lost many wars, internal and external, for failure of communications and stands in danger of yet more disastrous reverses unless it learns to use communications more adroitly. The record is deplorable.
