ABSTRACT

The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board in Perth, Western Australia is a statutory authority appointed by the State Government to manage designated cemeteries in the State Capital. In 1988 the name and charter of the Karrakatta Cemetery Board changed to Metropolitan Cemeteries Board. The organizational structure was basically hierarchical starting from a Manager of Operations and a Manager of Administration at Karrakatta and an Operations Manager at Pinnaroo. The concept of a learning organization was also important in the cultural change to be achieved beyond the implementation of the new structure. A workshop to address the strategic plan, organizational structural issues, communications and culture was conducted and facilitated by David Napoli. All managers and co-ordinators and a cross section of the general workforce were invited to participate in the workshop. The Human Resources Manager suggests that the gift be in the form of an additional contribution to the employee's superannuation, a solution appealing to the employee.
