ABSTRACT

Gum printing knows no bounds. It can be painterly or photographic. It can be practiced in many sorts of ways by all sorts of people. This chapter aims to give artists their voice when it comes to all things gum. It also aims to share their work and thoughts and shows how many and varied are the roads that lead to a great gum print. The chapter presents artists' biography and artist statement plus information about process and creative practice. The process context shows what negative material, gum, dichromate, and paper used, Simple or complex digital negatives, what is the biggest stumbling block in gum printing, and so on. The creative practice shows how long artists have been gum printing, What determines whether an image will become a gum print, What is their characteristic gum style or subject, and some tips on creativity they would like to share.
