ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to explore ways in which higher education institutions (HEIs) in Kazakhstan are responding to the imperative to internationalize their curricula. While there are strong drivers for HEIs to internationalize in Kazakhstan, rationales for and opinions about doing this vary from one institution to another. The chapter focuses on three questions: (1) How is internationalization of curriculum interpreted and defined in Kazakhstan’s higher education institutions? (2) What are the rationales for internationalization of curriculum? (3)  What are the challenges encountered in internationalizing curricula?
