ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on certain issues of evil, commencing with some prototypical examples both of earthly, human evil and of celestial, godly evil. These phenomena are then juxtaposed to Humanism, which, I propose, signifies man’s attempt to act in accordance with the Natural Law. This law, also referred to as the Natural Godly Law, represents the pure, absolute good, and is, by definition, universal. The humanist imperative to realize the good stands therefore as evil’s opposing force, evil’s antidote.
