ABSTRACT

An affidavit is a document used to support or justify issuance of a warrant, such as a search warrant or arrest warrant, and is made under oath. The affidavit is presented by an agent of a government to a person authorized by law to issue the warrant, such as a judge, and gives details sufficient to conclude that a crime was committed and that a warrant should be issued. The details in the affidavit provide what is called probable cause.
