ABSTRACT

There is no precise language that must be used in advising a suspect of Miranda rights. The point is that whatever language is used, the substance of the rights outlined above must be communicated to the suspect. The suspect may be advised of rights orally or in writing. An example of a warning is: “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you?”
