ABSTRACT

For purposes of this report, northwestern Colorado is defined as that part of the state north of the Colorado River and west of the Park and Gore mountain ranges (see figure 1). In addition to these two ranges, other prominent topographic features located south to north and west to east from the area’s southwestern corner include the following: Roan and White River plateaus, White River Basin (which includes Douglas and Piceance Creek drainages), Danforth Hills, Williams Fork River, Williams Fork Mountains, Yampa River Basin (including the Little Snake and Elkhead rivers), and the Elkhead Mountains. Moreover, the extreme northwestern corner of Colorado is marked by Cold Springs Mountain, Browns Park, the Green River and its Lodore Canyon in Dinosaur National Monument, and Douglas Mountain.
