ABSTRACT
The last three chapters have involved something of a detour through some of the philosophical controversies surrounding the computational theory of the mind and artificial intelligence. It is now time to return to the problem of representation, introduced in Chapter 2. How has our discussion of the computational theory of the mind helped us in understanding this problem?
