ABSTRACT

Flooding is a principal climatic hazard in Bangladesh. This annual occurrence is symbiotic with rural livelihoods and food production. The seasonal flooding cycle brings fertility to fields and interconnections between water bodies and waterways to nurture the proliferation of fish. Flooding can also be devastating to households which lose assets and sometimes land due to erosion (Cannon, 2009). Flooding disproportionately affects the poor, forcing them into a cycle of poverty due to their inability to cope with losses and access resources used for housing and livelihoods.
