ABSTRACT

Picture this: six performers are on stage. Light, sound and bodies interact in the space. Three laptop musicians capture, manipulate and perform the voices of three theatrical performers. Simultaneously, foley sounds are initiated by the theatre performers in response to a text given to them by the director; the sounds are captured live and stored to be used as sonic material later in the work. Now, one of the musicians uses pre-recorded sounds to develop the audio texture; another manipulates a live audio stream with post-production software; a third sets up an external interface device and begins to mirror the bodily gestures of a theatre performer and this controls the parameters of an audio stream. Animation is projected onto two locations in the space and lighting helps to punctuate the scene.
