ABSTRACT

As we developed the risk factors for this book, we knew that alcohol intoxication was an aspect that occurred again and again in cases of sexual assault on campus. Studies have typically pointed to upwards of 50%–75% of sexual assault incidents involving alcohol or drugs. It has been our experience at two separate large institutions that

close to 90%–95% of cases of sexual assault on campus involved alcohol intoxication. It is difficult to overstate the enormity of the problem of substances used to impact the sexual violence on campus.
