ABSTRACT

The word 'dynamics' we know that we are incorporating time explicitly into our thinking, looking at the way things change and develop as each new form emerges out of the last. All in all, rather a lot to handle, and many of the equations nest within each other in a sort of hierarchy of importance and all of these have to be evaluated time and time again for each lattice point as the 'settlement history' unfolds before our very eyes. There is absolutely no way such complexity could be handled without a large and fast computer. Yet the essence of this apparently complicated model that is going to simulate the dynamic behaviour of a geographic system is really quite simple. Economic and population growth at a point are going to take place if there are lots of jobs available, if roads make it easy to move there, if the birth rate is high and so on.
