ABSTRACT

Teachers should definitely make their classroom libraries accessible and easy to use. They should have a diversity of books, chapter, picture books, comic books and easy reads. They should organize their books by genre and even put together a classroom favorite list. Keeping a library well organized is nearly as important as having great books. For the child who gave up a long time ago on reading. For the child who does not believe that school is for him or her. For the child who is angry, who is misplaced, who is lost; picture books can make the biggest difference. Sometimes students write after reading the picture books, other times they do not. Picture books tend to stay in the classroom because they get lost really easily; however, students may ask if they can borrow one to take home.
