ABSTRACT
Having established a potential for injury in the workplace, selection of one or more control measures is necessary. An integral part of the effectiveness of the control is the monitoring of the controls once in place. It is important to remember that engineering and designing the problems out must be the primary consideration. The use of PPE is low in the list of control measures to be considered as a single solution. The safety precedence sequence applies to these control measures, placing the need for human intervention lower on the scale of acceptability than ‘hardware’ solutions.
