ABSTRACT

Koreans have developed a sense of restraint along with dogged perseverance to achieve individual or group objectives. The robust democracy now prevalent in Korea allows a shifting equilibrium among various centres of power as well as ideologies and meets socio-economic requirements of a prospering society. A dramatic increase in the bilateral exchanges and interactions among the countries of Northeast Asia, with the notable exception of North Korea. Korea has positioned itself as a middle power and as a bridge between the rich and the developing world as well as between great and smaller powers. India's 'Look East' policy initially focused on strengthening bilateral links with ASEAN member countries, participating in the East Asia Summit process and pursuing a dialogue partnership with ASEAN. The Republic of Korea (ROK) looks at India as a potentially huge market for its manufactured and engineering products. In September 2011, the China, Japan and ROK countries launched a Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat in Seoul.
