A Reply to Dr. Schiller [1908]

Paper 36 Previously unpublished, was written in rejoinder to Schiller’s article “The Tribulations of Truth”, which appeared in the Albany Review in March 1908. Schiller’s article, in turn, was his response to Russell’s article “Transatlantic ‘Truth’” (Paper 16), which the same journal had printed in January 1908. On 22 January, Schiller had written to Russell about 16, praising it highly but adding that “it rests on a misconception…. If you like, I will even write a short reply for publication in the Albany if you think the Editor would print it.” Not long afterward, Schiller must have submitted “The Tribulations of Truth” to the Albany Review.
