ABSTRACT
The American mathematician Edward Vermilye Huntington (1874-1952) was a professor at Harvard. He published axiomatizations (and proved their independence) for many mathematical theories-an endeavour which was relatively uncommon at the time and which made him one of the first of the American postulate theories; see Scanlan 1991.
