ABSTRACT
Charles Darwin’s logic regarding our connections to the African apes, and Raymond Dart’s fossil from Taung, provided sufficient reason to search for fossil evidence of early human ancestors in Africa, but they gave no indication as to what time period may yield the earliest forms—those that first diverged from the other hominoids and started on the path to bipedalism. How do we, then, determine when the hominin lineage first arose?
