ABSTRACT

Some racial and ethnic minorities neither accept the values of the dominant cultureand try to assimilate into it, nor reject the value system and attempt to isolate themselves from it by physical or psychological means. Some groups reject the value system of the majority society and seek to radically alter it. They strive to replace some part of the dominant culture’s values with their own. This chapter explores three radical ideologies as prominent examples of groups attempting to recruit converts from among the nation’s minorities: Socialism, Communism, and Fascism/Nazism. Each saw minorities as sources of adherents upon which to build their movements to where they could seize power and impose their values. None succeeded, but they made an effort and had an indirect impact on the dominant culture.
