ABSTRACT
Marxist theory arose in the 1950s and bore a clear connection to paradigmatic structuralism. The “oppositions” of structuralism were replaced by “dialectics”— statements and their antithesis-in Marxism. One of the differences was that Marxist theory foregrounded the economic aspects of culture.
