ABSTRACT

Ethnopolitical conflict, as this book’s chapters attest, is complex. It is one of this century’s gravest threats. Yet, ethnopolitical conflict remains difficult to understand, prevent, and mitigate. This text endeavors to shed light on ethnopolitical conflict and the deadly violence it produces. By sharing their perspectives from the front lines, this book’s contributors have given voice to the realities and complexities of ethnopolitical conflict around the globe. They have explained its intransigence, and some have offered actionable recommendations on how to mitigate and prevent deadly ethnopolitical violence. Especially noteworthy is the chapter jointly authored by Edy Kaufman, an Israeli, and Manual Hassassian, a Palestinian. By example, they show that dialogue, respect, and mutual learning deepen understanding and promote peace.
