ABSTRACT

POWER DEFINED berger (1985) defined power as a person’s ability to influence others. individuals often exert power by using resources (Guerrero, Andersen, & Afifi, 2011). in interpersonal relationships, people manage resources by giving them to or taking them away from others. t hese resources may take many forms, such as sex, money, time, or rewards. For instance, Alyssa may give Gavin more affection when he displays positive behaviors towards her. berger (1985) noted that power influences relationship partners’ feelings, behaviors, and actions toward each other. if Gavin perceives himself to be more powerful in the relationship with Alyssa, do you think that might influence the amount of positive behavior he gives to her?
