NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION AS PERSUASION t he nonverbal cues you are presented with in j ake’s house provide a variety of ways you can choose to interpret or be persuaded by your interaction. Nonverbal communication includes all the ways to communicate without using words. What you wear and how you look, move, and gesture and your facial and eye expressions are all included in these kinds of messages. t herefore, the persuasive power of nonverbal communication is important to study. As you focus on the persuasive dimensions of nonverbal communication in this chapter, keep the following questions in mind: How can nonverbal cues persuade others? What counts as nonverbal communication and how can that impact persuasion and influence? What are the specific codes (categories) of nonverbal communication connected to the study of persuasion?
