ABSTRACT

A , copyright is a property right, comprised of a set of legally enforceable privileges, granted for a limited term by law to creators of artistic works such as songs and recordings. These privileges (“exclusive rights”) vary depending on the type of creation. The most important of these exclusive rights to musicians are the exclusive right to make and sell copies of the creation and the exclusive right to publicly perform it. Copyright owners make money by selling or licensing these rights to others or by exploiting the rights themselves. Copyright law is based on the public policy, as stated in the U.S. Constitution, that the law should promote the creation of artistic works.
