ABSTRACT
THE REGULATORY CONTEXT Our dominant social paradigm has a significant impact on the scope and force of regulations that have been devised to deal with environmental problems. In this chapter, we explore varying approaches to environmental regulation, including the impact of the assumptions of science and risk analysis, and we examine the accepted role of government regulation on environmental policy. We conclude with an overview of environmental law.
