ABSTRACT

Waste management has been plagued by an “out of sight, out of mind” public mentality. We do not realize that we are slowly burying ourselves in our own garbage, as landfills have been the preferred method of waste disposal. Overall, we are leaving a substantial “ecological footprint” due to our consumption patterns and the ensuing waste. To supply all 6 billion-plus humans with the resources and land needed to absorb the products that Americans use and the waste that Americans create, we should not be discouraged-a great deal of progress is being made toward rectifying the waste management problem.
