ABSTRACT

Water moves through a cycle, falling to Earth in the form of rain or snow and returning to the atmosphere. On Earth, most water percolates into the soil, where it remains or moves into lakes, rivers, and eventually the ocean. Some water is held by plants, which eventually release the water back into the atmosphere through a process called evapotranspiration. Other waters at the surface in lakes, rivers, or in the seas evaporate into the atmosphere to complete the water cycle.
