ABSTRACT

We visited a neighborhood bookstore just to browse. On our way to the books on ethics, we happened to pass by the section titled Self Help. It was one of the largest sections in the store, and our curiosity caused us to stop and peruse the titles in that section. To our mild surprise, we found that a major proportion of the titles focused on relationships with others, and that self help really meant “help me deal with other people in my life.” To be sure, there were a few books on subjects like memory improvement, time management, and dressing for success. But what caught our attention were the cleverly titled and colorful books dealing with the way we treat-and are treated by-others.
