ABSTRACT

As demonstrated in Chapter 3, callimicos have a dietary niche that is different from either saddle-back or red-bellied tamarins, particularly during the dry season. Callimicos are the only species of the three to consume large quantities of fungi, and to forage predominantly in the understory. Given these differences in diet and foraging, it is important to consider what other behaviors and ecological specializations distinguish these species from one another. In this chapter I compare use of habitat, locomotor style, and activity budgets among callimicos, red-bellied tamarins, and saddle-back tamarins.
