ABSTRACT
Text messaging is popular these days with cell phone users. Abbreviations,some of them unique, are often used to facilitate rapid typing on thephone keypad. For example, instead of “see you later,” a text messenger might send “CUL8R.” A person with little experience in text messaging might find some messages difficult to understand. Communication researchers are also interested in texts and messages, but in a significantly different way.
