ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the ideas and strategies to help people feel more comfortable about including movement, physical activity, and more team-building ideas into the classroom. This is not their typical 'how to manage a class', but it is how to manage a class where children can learn the way they were created to learn, through active learning. Students may be a little rowdy at first, because of the novelty of doing something different. However, once it becomes part of the routine, students will adjust to it as simply their new active learning environment. The issue with some teachers is that they confuse rules and routines. When students realized that having class outdoors was going to be part of their weekly routine if they behaved, they were more diligent about their behavior and monitoring others' behavior so they would get to go outside.
