ABSTRACT

More and more researchers have turned to experimental methods in an attempt to determine causality. Communication research in general has relied upon experimental methods developed in psychology and education to solve problems that might not be solved by traditional research methods. As a result, journalism or mass communications has become a science in addition to simply the writing, production, and dissemination of news. And telecommunication has transformed lives everywhere in addition to being a form of entertainment or escape. As in every scientific endeavor, all efforts are aimed at finding lawfulness, searching for the patterns of human communication behavior, and looking for orderliness in issues and problems that confront or confuse us. In summary, we are always attempting to establish causality of one thing to another. More than ever we want to be able to predict. Prediction is the key.
