ABSTRACT

The broad objective of the work reported on by Reardon was the disaggregation of historical data on energy consumption to a much greater detail than previously, in a manner consistent with existing input-output tables, and the performance of certain analysis on the derived data. One of the major contributions of the work is the construction of direct and direct-plus-indirect energy coefficients for 1947, 1958, and 1963 for thirty-five economic sectors. Examination of the time trend of these coefficients provides clues as to the trend of energy consumption per unit of output in the individual sectors. The trend for each sector can also be compared with the aggregate of all sectors (i.e., the energy real gross national product ratio).
