ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses a large number of online fiction set in the present day, in addition to historical dramas which were adapted into TV or net dramas, including Ode to Joy, My Sunshine, Remembering Lichuan, Yu Zui, to just name a few. These dramas have all caused heated online and offline discussions due to their depictions of contemporary romance or crime, probing into hidden anxieties of class inequality. The book also describes social problems, provide pure fun, and sometimes cause social problems such as the Internet violence. In the case of egao, the cultural phenomenon continues to be relevant today, despite having undergone some changes. Micro-narratives also continue to be a significant form of cultural expression online, particularly when the ubiquitous connection to the Internet further individualizes and fragmentize people's lives, while the authoritarian Party-state increasingly tightens its control of cyberspace.
