ABSTRACT
Two sorts of questions related to the interface between technology and society have begun to arise with great frequency and persistence. They are difficult or impossible to deal with by means of conventional modes of economic analysis. The questions are:
What are the economic or environmental implications of technological changes? and
What are the technological consequences of altered economic or environmental constraints?
