ABSTRACT

There is ample evidence that technology has changed our language, and will continue to do so in the future. Contrary to what many people believe, texting and technology alone are not to blame for the woes teachers may face when it comes to evaluating student writing that may be riddled with "text speak" language. Some issues included students failing to compose the variety of sentences that are needed throughout their writing. The author has found it very difficult for students to retain what parts make up the various types of sentences and effectively use the different types of sentences in their own writing. This is difficult enough when asking them to compose sentences on paper or with a word processor. The chapter also explains Triple E Framework describing three levels: engagement, enhancement, and extension. The framework works through steps that encourage educators to implement technology so students can apply what they are doing beyond the classroom.
